To say I am hard on this body of mine is an understatement. My work as a stylist often has me schlepping heavy totes of props to and from my third-floor apartment, standing for loooong days, hunching to tweeze and primp food, and in general, I tend to tense up and internalize stress. I'm sure I'm not alone in these feelings, regardless of your profession, and I'm sure I'm not alone in needing a little more time and space for self care.
I make a point to visit my chiropractor (Oh hey Dr. Alex!), and lately, I've been prioritizing deep tissues massages from my new favorite place, but I've been working to create a homemade apothecary collection for you and me both. That's where this DIY Sea Salt Soak comes into play. It's visually a beautiful addition to a bathroom shelf, but most importantly, it will really do wonders for your feet.
The specific salts in this Sea Salt Foot Soak are important for their mineral contents and restorative powers, so don't make substitutions. When it comes to sourcing the ingredients for this Sea Salt Foot Soak, I recommend visiting your local co-op. The bulk bin sections make buying smaller quantities a breeze, but you if you don't have a coop, you can usually find these ingredients at Home Goods, TJ Maxx and the like.
Dead Sea SaltDead Sea Salt replenishes the body with minerals like magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, zinc and potassium, which help to relax the body, ease tense muscles and soften the skin. Dead sea salt also acts as a detoxifying agent.
Pink Himalayan Sea SaltThese pretty pink salt crystals are known to eliminate toxins and balance the body's pH. Soaking in Pink Himalayan Sea Salt can increase circulation and reduce inflammation. Plus, pink sea salt boasts a lot of nutrition benefits too, so buy some extra and throw some in your salt shaker too.
Chamomile & RoseJust as drinking a mug of chamomile tea in the evening can help you wind down and relax, soaking your feet in a chamomile infusion can push you one step closer to a state of zen. Rose adds a delicate scent to the soak, so consider giving this Sea Salt Soak as a gift to a friend or significant other who deserves flowers in some form.
Once you've enjoyed this starter formula, you can start to experiment by increasing the quantity, adding essential oils or other dried flowers like lavender. You can also add it to a bath if you're lucky enough to have a lounge-worthy tub.
Let me know what you come up with!
Cheers,
