LOVED IT.

I mean, I just loved the entire thing. It had the balls to kill off three people in the first hour, one of the “stars” included. An incredibly strong pilot that really sets the tone perfectly. I have a perfect understanding of the show, the plot, the characters, the mystery, everything. It’s really a flawless pilot. I can understand if you didn’t “get” the show. It’s not a show for everyone. But if you love the slasher genre, love horror comedies, and are a big fan of Ryan Murphy’s creations… this show is probably for you.

First off, Emma Roberts is perfection. She’s so great as the mean queen. If the season keeps up the way its going, she’ll be an Emmy contender. As will be Jamie Lee Curtis, who is still gorgeous and ageless. She’s so powerful and smart in her role. Those two characters just make the entire show better just by existing. I’m unfamiliar with Skyler Samuels, but I really like her as the likeable female lead. Also, Keke Palmer is super sassy. I need her to survive the season. Please? Lea Michele is great in a role that’s so completely different from Rachel Berry. Abigail Breslin is a little underused, I’ll be honest. Glen Powell, Nick Jonas, Oliver Hudson, Niecy Nash, and Nasim Pedrad all offer really solid supporting turns.

The show is based on the idea that 20 years ago, something awful happened at kappa kappa tau. Since then, the girls have apparently only gotten bitchier, and more cutthroat. Now, there’s a serial killer who is actually cutthroat, and these girls will be lucky to survive the semester. Lots of mystery is set up in the first two episodes. A few people are strongly suggested as potential killers.

My only hope for the season is that it continues to be ballsy with its choice victims. I do absolutely need Roberts, Curtis, Palmer, and Samuels to make it as long as humanly possible, but there are a lot of other options in the cast. Breslin, for example, really offers nothing to the series right now and is dramatically underused. Unless they plan on actually giving her a character, I’d suggest using her as another shock victim like they had in the pilot.

This is my favorite new show of the season, and I’m very much committed to this every week. Hilarious. Great writing. Great casting. Good job, Ryan Murphy. You didn’t disappoint.

FINAL GRADE: A
