Below is the link to the interview given by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna on January 20, 2017 on the television program Xarabank in relation to the Guidelines for Communion for the divorced-and-remarried (known as the “Maltese directive”) issued earlier this month by the bishops of Malta and Gozo. Both for the record and for those who do not understand the Maltese language, Scicluna repeatedly refers to “the teachings of Pope Francis” during the interview about whether the divorced-and-remarried can receive Holy Communion.
Despite being pushed repeatedly by the interviewer to respond with a clear “yes” or “no” on whether receiving Communion is a sin if one is living in an ‘adulterous’ relationship due to never having obtained a decree of annulment by the Church for a failed sacramental marriage, Scicluna not once answers this question in a clear-cut manner and keeps referring to “the teachings of Pope Francis,” rather than the teachings on matrimony by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
