Officials are saying that Schoolboy Q was a target during Thursday night’s shooting outside Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It was rumored to just be a random act of violence, but officials aren’t buying it at all. Schoolboy Q was amongst 3 others in the vehicle to be shot at. The 3 other people suffered non-life threatening injuries, and Schoolboy left the scene untouched. An unpleasant end to a benefit concert featuring Schoolboy Q, Nas and Flying Lotus. “This is not just a coincidence. We think there is probably more to it than that,” said Jacki Kelley, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. “It does seem to be more targeted than random.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, a gunman emerged from the bushes outside the venue at around 10:30 pm on Thursday, as the show was ending. He fired several rounds at a white SUV that Schoolboy Q was riding in along with at least four other people. The rapper was not hit, but three other passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
After the shooting, Schoolboy Q and the other passengers drove the SUV about 15 miles to Denver, where they were stopped by police and taken for medical treatment. The police initially handcuffed Schoolboy Q and the other uninjured passenger, though Kelley said the rapper was not a suspect in the shooting. The victims were treated at Denver Health Medical Center, and one was released from the hospital on Friday morning.
No arrests have been made yet, and investigators are still searching for a motive for the attack. Kelley said that they have received numerous tips.
