The SCAR-L is a lightweight variant of the FN SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle), a short-stroke, gas-piston, gas-operated automatic rifle available in a variety of cartridges. It was originally developed by FN Herstal for US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) as an entry for the SCAR competition to find a new active duty rifle for SOCOM. As of 2015, the SCAR family of rifles is in service with more than 20 countries. [1] In BATTLEGROUNDS it proved to be a well-rounded rifle with a quieter muzzle flash and good stability.
