Say You'll Love Me by Ally Broadfield is 2015 Entangled ( Scandalous) publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Charming Ode to Fairytales!
Abigail gets the shock of her life when at her very own engagement ball, she discovers her fiancé , Robert, in a compromising position with his sister's maid. Before she can come to grips with what she witnessed, the ladies maid vanishes and is later found dead, making Robert the number one suspect.
While she wishes to cry off, her father insists she stick by Robert until they find the killer. She reluctantly agrees, but decides to investigate matters herself with the help of her friend's brother, Edmund Townsend, the Marquess of Longcroft.
Edmund is a mathematical whiz with seven sisters, he must find husbands for, which means he hasn't given much thought to finding a wife for himself. Besides, Edmund doesn't think love is logical, believing it to be a 'non- quantifiable concept. But, Edmund is finding it harder to resist the urge to kiss Lady Abigail.
“What is this?”
“I'm attempting to determine what is wrong with me.”
She read aloud from his list.
“Insomnia, loss of appetite, inability to concentrate.”
Looking up, she met his eyes.
“Sounds to me like you're in love”
“Impossible.” “I have already determined that love does not exist.”
“You're a fool if you think that.” … “I take that back. You are a damn fool.”
I enjoy historical romances with a bit of mystery or intrigue in them, and I also enjoy the friends to lovers trope, so this one really appealed to me.
This story also pays homage to fairy tales as Abigail is always reading them and deep down believes there really is such a thing as happy ever after, and that she deserves to be loved, even though she has begun to think true love is not in the cards for her.

Edmund is a unique hero - funny, but smart, maybe a little nerdy, but sweet and honorable. The best part of the story, for me, was seeing him transform from a non-believer to a true believer in the power of love.

This is a light romance with just a bit of a sinister edge at times, but mostly it's charming and fun.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:


Ally has worked as a horse trainer, director of marketing and development, freelance proofreader, and a children's librarian, among other things. None of them were as awesome as writing romance novels (though the librarian gig came closest). She lives in Texas and is convinced her house is shrinking, possibly because she shares it with three kids, five dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and assorted reptiles. Oh, and her husband.
Ally likes to curse in Russian because very few people know what she's saying, and spends most of what would be her spare time letting dogs in and out of the house and shuttling kids around. She has many stories in her head looking for an opportunity to escape onto paper. She writes historical romance set in Regency England and Imperial Russia.
