Saturday Afternoon BBQ

By Hellofreckles @tashajsteel
Saturday Afternoon BBQOn Saturday I was invited up to Amy's for a little housewarming BBQ along with a handful of other blogger friends.Saturday Afternoon BBQI first met Amy at the Benefit FakeUp event in Newcastle and my first impression was that she seemed really lovely. I noted down her blog address and twitter details to hopefully stay in touch and well, that's what we've done. The other bloggers she invited along were all familiar faces I'd seen at events and ate (too many) cupcakes with (I'm looking at you, Chloe).
I met Amy and Alice at the train station and we were waiting on the platform when I decided to go get a coffee for the journey. I got to the counter, asked for a vanilla latte and turned back towards the platform to check the time only to see Amy and Alice waving me over as the train was pulling in. I tried to get the barista's attention and apologize but she didn't seem to hear me so I just had to head for the train. Ooops. She probably drank my coffee anyway when she turned round and realised I wasn't there.

The train only took around 40 minutes and the view of the coast and all the fields was lovely. Although it seemed a bit overcast when we arrived in Berwick, and a fair bit colder and windier than Newcastle, by the time the food was on the BBQ the sun had reappeared from behind the clouds and it was really lovely and warm.Saturday Afternoon BBQWe sat and sipped drinks through these lovely straws in the garden while chatting and waiting for the food. Amy's sister, Erin was BBQ chief and her little boy was also there, keeping Amy's daughter company. I decided not to take any photos of them playing and running around, but believe me they were really cute! I've also just realised that we didn't get any photos together as a group, which is a shame. The food was lovely; vegetable skewers, homemade burgers, chicken strips, pasta, cous cous, potato salad then key lime pie and chocolate strawberries for dessert. Amy had clearly put a lot of effort in and it really showed, everything was great and it was so nice to have a relaxed afternoon in the sun.It got even better when the dog from next door appeared in the garden. I genuinely wanted to take her home with me. Saturday Afternoon BBQBefore we left, Amy surprised us with little party bags to take away. She had made us cupcakes but unfortunately it seemed that following a recipe on pinterest left her with rock cakes, which we were welcome to take with us to use as a weapon if necessary! Saturday Afternoon BBQ
Saturday Afternoon BBQSaturday Afternoon BBQ We each had a little Benefit 'Posie Tint' sample and two little gifts from MissGeeKay. I've just been looking on the website now and there's loads of lovely little jewelry pieces at great prices. If you use the code 'Freckles20' you'll get 20% off too! Let me know if you end up buying anything.

Thanks Amy for inviting me up to your new house for the BBQ and to meet your lovely little daughter. I really hope we can have more afternoons like that but next time I definitely need to make sure we get some group photos!
