Now that Intel has started to lose its grip on the PC chip market, new competitors are arriving to take advantage of the now unpredictable market. Samsung could become the next big competitor for custom ARM chips from Intel, AMD and Apple.
According to rumors, the Korean manufacturer is working on an Exynos processor for Windows PC on ARM. For those who don't know, ARM is a different processor architecture than the standard x64 and x86. Most smartphones and other small electronics come with ARM chips.
In 2017, Microsoft partnered with Qualcomm to make Windows 10 run on ARM-based Snapdragon chips. But if the rumor is true, we could see Windows 10 on ARM powered by an Exynos processor.

There are reports that Samsung's new processor will be based on Exynos 1000. According to leaks, the supposed 5nm processor could power the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. In addition, the new Samsung chip for Windows PC will be called "Exynos 1".
According to Sam Mobile, Samsung has already prototyped a PC version of Exynos 990 - the smartphone maker's newest and most powerful processor. However, the company does not yet have confidence in it and therefore relies on a new chip.
Samsung's internal Exynos processors most often lost to their competition when comparing raw power. It will be interesting to see how the PC version of Exynos stands out from other ARM processors.
