Samsung Galaxy Watch 6: Everything you need to know
Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed when the new iteration of its wearable will be released, but leakers have stepped in to fill in the gaps.
The Watch 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 are anticipated to debut during an Unpacked event in late July, according to a SamMobile story from April. Samsung will have a launch ceremony in Seoul on July 26 according to more specific reports from Korean tabloid Chosun and leaker Max Jambor.
That’s a tiny bit earlier than anticipated but generally in keeping with Samsung’s routine, which has seen the most recent Galaxy Watch models appear every August like clockwork
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 – August 2022
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 – August 2021
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 – August 2020
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 cost?
The price of the Galaxy Watch 6 has not yet been announced by Samsung, just like the anticipated release date. However, we may look at prior generations to get some ideas of what to anticipate.
The Watch generations’ base models are arranged as follows:
Watch 5
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 (40mm) – $279/£269/€299
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 (44mm) – $309/£289/€329
Watch 4
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (40mm) – $249/£249/€269
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (44mm) – $279/£269/€299
Watch 3
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (41mm) – $399/£399/€429
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (45mm) – $449/£439/€499
We believe it is likely that the 40mm variant holds at under 300 while the larger model just edges over those limits because prices have been fairly stable over time, even with the increase several European countries witnessed last year.
The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro are two additional versions that have graced the catalog in recent years. These typically have more sophisticated designs or construction, which may be appealing to individuals looking for the best smartwatch. As you can see below, they typically come with a higher price tag.
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro – $449/£429/€429
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (42mm) – $349.99/£349/€369
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (46mm) – $379.99/£369/€399
It’s probable that we’ll see either a Pro or Classic model this year as they both came out around the same time as the main Watch models; you’ll find some suggestions about which one to anticipate lower down.
What new features will we see in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6?
We haven’t had any official confirmation about the technical specifications of the Galaxy Watch 6, but a few rumors have already pointed to what we might see in August.
Bigger display:
The Watch 6 will have a bigger display with enhanced quality, according to a recent tweet by tech leaker Ice Universe. Okay, so that might not sound like much.
We’re talking about a 0.7in increase from the Galaxy Watch 5’s current 1.4in screen size. It all depends on scale, and given the small panels of smartwatches, those minor changes can have a bigger impact than you might expect. While you won’t be able to watch Hollywood blockbusters on your wrist, the increased area and resolution may make it a little more pleasant to use the interface.
Additionally, according to Ice Universe, the new watch might have a curved glass display and slimmer bezels, potentially emulating the Pixel in terms of style.
Bigger battery:
The Watch 6 will have slightly larger batteries than its predecessors, according to the Dutch tech website GalaxyClub. According to the leaked photographs it discovered, the 44mm watch will go from 410mAh to 425mAh, while the 40mm watch will grow from 284mAh to 300mAh. It’s unclear how this may impact how long you can use the Watch before it shuts off, but any increase in wristwatch battery life is always appreciated.
New processor:
Not to be left out, the processor department is about to get some love, according to a report by SamMobile. The site states that the Exynos W920 chip that has powered the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 series will be upgraded to an Exynos W980 in the Galaxy Watch 6, bringing with it up to 10% improvement in performance plus more powerful health tracking features.
Updated tracking software:
We do know that Samsung is working to make the Watch 6’s software better, and we have a general idea of what to expect thanks to a public beta of the next One UI 5 Watch update, which will probably be released concurrently with the new hardware.
The major updates, as summarised by The Verge, include enhanced sleep tracking with a more visible sleep score, personalized heart rate zones for exercise (instead of the current age-based ones used), an expansion of the Route Workout mode to cover running and walking, and an updated Emergency SOS mode that can now contact emergency services in addition to your pre-selected emergency contact.
It’s likely that Samsung will also be tweaking the watches’ tracking hardware of course, but it’s good to know that there are definitely some upgrades on the way, even if they’ll also be rolling out to existing Watch 4 and Watch 5 owners.

Return of the Classic, demise of the Pro:
The codenames and capacities that GalaxyClub found when looking into the aforementioned battery upgrades appear to indicate the likely comeback of the Watch Classic model, which was last seen with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. This was a more sophisticated design with a classic watch style and a real spinning bezel.
This was abandoned when the Watch 5 series debuted in lieu of a Pro model designed for outdoor activities and features a more durable design, a bigger display, and a gigantic battery. It appears that Samsung will soon return to the Watch 4 lineup, at least as of the time of writing. Of course, this could just be smoke and mirrors or the fact that the Watch 6 Pro’s battery hasn’t been spotted yet.
