Samsung Galaxy S6
This is the season when the mobile makers of the world gear up to unleash new innovation. And as expected, Samsung is ready with their brand new flagship devices. The much awaited Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge were launched today, on 2nd March, 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.
As can be expected from Samsung’s flagship devices, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have much to wow the users in terms of features, specifications and appearance.
The devices will be launched globally in April. I do hope to be able to relate their features in more details then. For now, here are the highlights.
Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have a metal and glass body that does looks stunning in the few pictures that I have seen. The display is Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which is said to be the toughest glass used in a smartphone yet. The S6 has a flat display and the S6 Edge has a curved display on both sides. (It being an Edge device, there are two displays. One the front screen and another on the side.) The devices will be available in various shades of jewel tones like White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald. The jewel tones have the capability of reflecting the natural light.
Both the devices are equipped with 5MP front camera and 16MP rear camera with F1.9 lenses and high resolution sensors. The camera features include Auto Real Time High Dynamic Range (HDR), Smart Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and IR Detect White Balance and of course, various camera modes. The devices are also equipped with Quick Launch function that can launch the camera in 0.7 seconds by simply double clicking the Home Key. While this really isn’t the fastest quick camera launch in a smartphone, it still is a much needed and welcome feature.
Another interesting and welcome feature that these devices have is Super Charging and Cord Free Charging. They are embedded with WPC and PMA certified wireless charging facility and are compatible with any wireless charging pad available in the market that supports WPC and PMA standards. The wired charging is also faster than other smartphones. It is said to be 1.5 times faster than Samsung Galaxy S5 and can give 4 hours of battery backup with just 10 minutes of charging.
Both the devices have an upgraded Samsung KNOX to ensure better security. The new security features include Find My Mobile, Reactivation Lock and an enhanced and faster fingerprint scanner.
Both the devices are also compatible with Samsung’s brand new wearable device Gear VR Innovator Edition that is powered by oculus and has been designed to provide the user an immersive viewing experience. It has 5.1 inch super AMOLED screen and is capable of displaying high resolution movies, TV shows, photos and VOD services. And the new Gear VR can also be charged with its USB port. The content that can be viewed on Gear VR can be downloaded from Oculus Store.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be available globally starting from 10th April. I’m not yet sure of the price of these devices. But both being premium and flagship devices, the price too will be premium. And yet, I feel that the devices look and sound impressive enough to win quick popularity.
Anyway, here are the important specification of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge:
