Samsung Galaxy Note 800 – Specifications and Best Features

Posted on the 27 August 2012 by Jyoti Arora @Jy0tiAr0ra

Fickleness, thy name is a Gadget Lover.

If you are a Gadget Lover yourself, or know someone who is so, you’d know this to be absolutely true.

A Gadget Lover is a new and rapidly growing sub species of Homo Sapiens that worships technology, adores gadgets, but can’t stay devoted to any one gadget for long. They are greedy for newer and better gadgets, have poor patience for delays and lags of any kind and become restless when forced to devote their attention anywhere else but an electronic screen.

I, myself, belong to this group. And just how fickle I can get can be gauged from the fact that I have declared myself devoted to four different loves in a span shorter than a year. And none of those four loves can boast to be a human.

When I became a Samsung Mobiler and got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 750, I at once and totally fell in love with it. Then came Samsung Galaxy Note, bowling me over with its slick smoothness and super capabilities. Recently, I met Samsung Galaxy SIII and fell for it as well. And now, here comes Samsung Galaxy Note 800, with its super performance and awesome features. I only got to spend just a little time with it at its launch event. But hey, there is a thing called Love-at-first-sight, isn’t there?

And now I must tell you about the features that totally won over my respect, admiration and adulation

:)

First of all is, of course, the smoothness, speed and the highly efficient multitasking, made possible by Note 800′s 1.4GHz Exynos Quad-Core Processor and 2 GB RAM and Android™ 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). And then, here are some of the features that make Samsung Galaxy Note 800 such an efficient device:

1. Ease of Creating Data: Galaxy Note 800 has several different ways that make it easier for the user to input data, be it in the form of writing, drawing, symbols, clippings and pictures from net, or even formulas. The S Pen makes it easier to input the data, and the Note 800 has handwriting recognition, Shape Match and even Formula Match to understand even quickly added scrawls and scribbles. Just draw a rough triangle, and it will instantly get transformed into a correct, straight lined triangle. Input a formula and Note 800 will recognize it and even help you check it out on the internet on the same screen.

So far, majority of Tablet users use their tabs primarily as a device of data consumption by surfing the net, checking out social networks, reading books or blogs etc. But Samsung Galaxy Note 800 has features that aim to encourage the user to use their Tablets for data creation as well, other than posting updates on Facebook and Twitter. It is optimized to make it easy for the user to create notes and documents, drawings, and such.

2. Adobe Photoshop: Photoshop is fun. And Photoshop with touchscreen and S Pen is fun twice over. Samsung Galaxy Note 800 comes with Adobe Photoshop on it. I was able to try it out at the launch of Note 800. At first I was apprehensive as I had never used the Photoshop before. But the superb demos showed me how to go about it and then it all seemed really easy, especially since instead of fingers, I had the S Pen as the selection and input device.

Split Screen

3. Split Screen: This is the feature that I definitely liked the best on Note 800. Of course, multitasking is nothing new. But in other devices, you have to get out of one window or app before you can enter other. But the Split Screen functionality on Samsung Galaxy Note 800 enables the user to actually have different apps open SIMULTANEOUSLY. Suppose you are browsing the internet and you want to copy a picture to a note. You don’t have to get out of the browser to do that. Just use the ‘Multiscreen’ button. The browser would shrink to half the screen. You can then open S Note, for example, on the other half of the screen. Then just capture the image using the S Pen and drag it to the S Note that is active on the other half of the screen. So simple, so efficient and so convenient.

4. Smart Stay and Pop Up Player: Like Samsung Galaxy SIII, Note 800 also has the Smart Stay feature and the awesome Pop Up Player. Smart Stay keeps the screen of the device on for as long as user’s eyes are focused on it. And by using the Pop Up Player, user can pop out the video player in a smaller window and carry on doing some other task in the background. Even better than SIII, the Pop Up Player in Galaxy Note 800 can be re-sized just by using pinch to zoom!

5. S Pen: S Pen is a very efficient input device. Using the S Pen, one can very conveniently write, draw or paint on Note 800, or capture pictures and screen shots.

But how convenient is it to hold S Pen? Well, this should give you an idea - While I was testing the Note 800 and had the S Pen in my hand, I entered into a conversation with a fellow Mobiler. And as my attention got diverted, I started twirling and flipping the S Pen in my hand just as if it was an ordinary pen or pencil. But not my fault! The S Pen of Note 800 really feels like and ordinary pen when you hold it. Its weight and size are such that I actually forgot I was holding an S Pen in my hand!

Well, there’s a lot more that makes Samsung Galaxy Note such a Wowsome device. This video will show you just how wowsome it is:
