Samsung Galaxy Note 20’s biggest feature is actually OS updates. Let me explain

In the middle of the Numerous cell phones, tablets and accessories Samsung announced At his online unpacked event earlier this month, a moment caught our eye towards the end. And no, it wasn't Cameo from the BTS group when they demonstrated this new Galaxy Z Fold 2. As the virtual show ended, Samsung revealed pricing and availability for its new one Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. One of the slides that the company showed said "Operating system updates up to 3 generations".

That's a big deal. Typically, Android phone manufacturers sometimes promise two major OS updates and two years of security updates. And that has always bothered me when checking Android phones, especially when Apple is offering operating system updates and security patches for 5-6 years.

Another take is that the Galaxy Note 20 was the cheapest phone Samsung showed off this month, and it costs $ 1,000 (£ 849). And no matter how great it is, it's hard to recommend that someone buy a $ 1,000 phone that will only be supported for 2 years. And remember that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is $ 1,300 and who knows how much the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will cost? The original Galaxy Fold was priced at $ 1,980.

Interestingly, the longer operating system support applies to Samsung phones like the Galaxy S10 and newer ones. However, there could be room for ambiguity under the term "three generations". Does that mean three generations of Android operating systems like Android 10, 11 and 12? Or does that mean three generations of Galaxy devices like S10, S20 and S30? And how long will it take Samsung to release three generations of updates?

While there is more to be learned about Samsung's commitment to more software updates, I hope other Android phone manufacturers follow suit with their phones.
