How to make salted cashew hot chocolate
To make this delicious hot chocolate, you've got some choices.
- You can froth your milk of choice (I used oat) with your favorite dark chocolate.
- Use a combination of maple syrup (or your preferred sweetener) and cacao powder.
Both are delicious, but I do prefer the version made with chocolate. The extra cacao butter lends an extra layer of decadence.
Along with the chocolate, you'll add a spoonful of creamy cashew butter and a pinch of sea salt. The cashew butter adds this incredible creaminess to the drink, while the salty finish at the end is the perfect touch to keep it from being too sweet & decadent.
To actually make the hot chocolate, you'll heat the milk of your choice in the microwave or a frother. Once hot, add your chocolate or sweetener and cacao powder, along with the cashew butter and sea salt. Froth in your mix-ins in the blender or with a handheld frother.
I personally use a larger capacity frother that both heats the milk and blends everything together beautifully for me and leaves a nice frothy finish!
Can I replace the cashew butter?
You certainly can! Cashew butter has the mildest flavor of most nut butter, lending a creamy, almost caramel-like flavor. However, if you're a peanut butter lover like me, a spoonful of peanut butter would be fantastic here, as would a spoonful of almond butter, or any of your other favorite nut butter.
