Salted Caramel Chocolate Martini

I missed posting in Friday Cocktails for the past two weeks. It's not like I'm taking any medicine that would keep me from imbibing after cataract surgery but between the constant of putting drops in my eyes, the followup appointments and just how tired they are at the end of the day; I simply wasn't in the mood for a drink. Or maybe I was in the mood but just not enough to make one? So yesterday I decided to get back in the saddle and made this simple, luscious Salted Caramel Chocolate Martini; a fantastic dessert cocktail.

I had planned to post it early this morning too; you know, like I used to do in the 'olden days?' But I, um, decided to sip on it while I worked on the photos in Photoshop and by the time there were completed...well, it didn't happen did it? Bad Barb!

This whole cataract surgery thing is strange. The procedure was nothing like I had imagined and was relatively easy. The first eye was the easiest. No problems. For some reason the 2nd one has had more pressure and swelling than the first one so it's required more meds, more time and more patience. I don't do well with any of those!! So some time off from the computer and work was necessary and welcome but enough is enough right?

I love to hang outside on the bench on my front porch on Halloween and see all the kids that come by. I also might love making a fun dessert type cocktail and imbibe just a bit while I'm sitting there for hours. I would offer to have one of these ready to those that show up at my door but know if word got out that kids and candy would take second place as parents race to my houise. This is really a great combination of flavors; sort of like a favorite milkshake but with a nice hit from Vodka.

I love Van Gogh's flavored vodkas; they're all natural and leave none of the awful aftertaste of some made with artificial ingredients. I had a bottle of my homemade chocolate liqueur and their caramel vodka in the liquor cabinet and thought 'why not?' so I blended the two together. The salted caramel rim is fantastic all on it's own but as I mention in the notes; be judicious with the salt. No table salt and just a bit; you want it to enhance the drink but not make it really salty.

Join me won't you and make a batch to enjoy on Halloween? Cheers!!
