Moroccan actress and Pop singer Mariam Hussein reacts to her conviction

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced Moroccan singer and actress Mariam Hussein to three months in prison and an expulsion from the United Arab Emirates over her dispute with journalist Saleh Al Jasmi.

The latter, after the verdict of the court, indicated that he does not intend to withdraw his complaint. On a video posted on his Instagram account, the brother of the singer Hussein Al Jasmi assured that no mediation will push him to forgive the Moroccan actress, believing that she has caused harm to the whole country. Al Jasmi also said that it is time for Mariam Hussein to take responsibility for the consequences of her actions.

The latter had reacted to the verdict and announced that it would appeal the judgment. “I have hope in God and trust in justice,” she wrote.

The case broke out last year between Mariam Hussein and the Emirati journalist Saleh Al Jasmi. The latter had decided to prosecute the Moroccan actress after receiving and broadcasting a video of her “in the midst of frolics”, accusing her of having had sex with a rapper during New Year’s celebrations.

In addition, Al Jasmi did not hesitate to thank his lawyer and said via his Twitter account: “Thank you to the Prosecutor’s Office which was fair. And all the respect and gratitude to the justice of our country”.

For his part, Mariam Hussein’s lawyer stated via his Twitter account that the decision to exclude his client from the United Arab Emirates was “arranged in advance”, while specifying that the verdict is not final and that Mariam Hussein would be the subject of an appeal to prove his innocence.
