RIO Olympic bronze medalist sakshi malik got engaged on Sunday, to her wrestler boyfriend Satyawrat Kadian, he is also a commonwealth winner, in Rohtak city. The engagement ceremony was a private event. Only, both of their family members were attending the event.
Satyawrat’s father Arjun Awardee Satyavan Pehelwan confirmed, wedding date isn’t revealed yet, due to, busy schedule of tournaments and trainings. Asked whether marriage was love or arranged, ’They have known each other, and wedding is confirmed by the initiative of both families’ Satyavan replied.
Earlier Sakshi Malik had spoken about Satyawrat, in media. Satyawrat 22-yr old, is two years younger to Sakshi and trains at his father’s akhada in Rohatak, Haryana. He won his first medal in 2010 Youth Olympics. He also won the silver in 97kg men’s wrestling event at the Glasgow games in 2014. Satyawart rose to fame in the 2013 World Youth Wrestling Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, when he became the only Indian wrestler to win a medal.
While Sakshi has been training at Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium Wrestling Academy in the same city. Both the families are settled in Rohtak. Meanwhile, Sakshi, made India proud after clinching 58kg freestyle wrestling event at, RIO 2016. After grabbing the medal, she became the first female wrestler to win a medal, ever from the country.
About Satyawrat, Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi had earlier said, ‘he is very supportive and thinks of my dreams as his own’.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was given, after her performance in Rio Olympic.
