Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday submitted his educational qualifications to Parliament.

Presenting his academic certificates, the Opposition Leader said he began his primary education at St. Bridget’s Convent in Colombo and moved to St. Thomas’ Preparatory School, and then Royal College, Colombo.

He also pointed out that he had not sat for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination in Sri Lanka, as he had left the country after Grade 9.

Thereafter, he pursued his education in the United Kingdom. He said that he had sat for his Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations in the UK. Refuting reports that he had failed to pass his Ordinary Level Examination, the Opposition Leader presented his UK qualifications, including school academic documents related to his UK education.

“I joined the London School of Economics (LSE) and obtained my first degree. However, I could not complete my Master’s as I returned to Sri Lanka in 1993 after my father’s death and took up politics. However, later I joined the University of Maryland, US, and then did a Master’s degree at the Open University. Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya was my lecturer at the Open University,” he said.

Premadasa also displayed the graduation certificate obtained from the London School of Economics (LSE), where he had pursued his degree.
