Sago Dates Porridge for Babies

Sago Dates Porridge is a naturally sweetened nutrient rich recipe for babies which helps in muscle growth, bone and cognitive development.

We know young babies under one can’t have sugar, sweeteners like jaggery or honey and that is why parents are always on the lookout for natural sweeteners like fruit and dry fruit. That is a great option for young babies, since you also get a whole lot of nutrients in the bargain!

One natural sweetener for babies that we can’t recommend enough is dates! Dates is a fruit sugar and has many health benefits. It is also is rich in potassium and iron, and helps in the cognitive development of babies.

So today we have a recipe that combines the nutrition of Sago and the sweetness of dates – Sago dates porridge! This porridge is a delicious stage 2 baby food that is perfect for babies above 8 months.

Sago Dates Porridge for Babies

Sago Dates Porridge is a nutrient rich breakfast recipe which helps in muscle growth, bone and cognitive development of babies.

Ingredients:

  • Sago pearls / sabudana – 2 tablespoon
  • Dates (pitted) – 2 -3
  • Cardamom powder – a pinch

Method

  1. Rinse the sago pearls and soak them in enough water for 4-5 hours.
  2. In another bowl, soak the pitted dates in water.
  3. After the soaking time, pulse the dates in a blender along with the soaked water to get a fine paste. You may add more water to make the paste if required.
  4. In a sauce pan add the dates puree and soaked sago pearls. Add 1/2 cup water. Stir well.
  5. Cook it for 7-10 minutes on low flame until the sago is cooked well and they turn transparent. Keep stirring the porridge while cooking to ensure it does not catch the bottom of the sauce pan.
  6. Put off the flame. Add the cardamom powder. Give a quick stir. Allow the porridge to cool down a bit before serving.
