Saar Speaks Against Disengagement, Past and Future

By Gldmeier @gldmeier
Gideon Saar, Minister of the Interior, is really positioning himself to take over as next leader of the Likud, and eventual prime minister. Saar has been very savvy, has made many of the right moves, built his connections in the Likud, and has become one of the most powerful ministers currently serving, as well as one of the most powerful people within the Likud. Saar has also been very careful to build his connections and relationships with other parties, and could very well get their support on the day that he makes his move.
Saar, speaking at an event marking the 9 year anniversary of the Disengagement from Gush Katif, spoke very harshly about the Disengagement, and the possibility of another similar plan in the future.
Saar said that a Palestinian state would be a danger to the State of Israel.... Saar thinks the pressure on Gaza should now be increased, and the siege should be tightened - all iron, cement, and other rough materials will be used by Hamas to rebuild their military systems, in order to harm Israel. Without a partner, the vacuum will be filled by terror, and there is no alternative to our presence. Where we don't have settlements, the IDF is not present, and where the IDF is not present terror enters. Uprooting settlements is therefore harming security. Terror didn't diminish because of our pullout of Gush Katif - it strengthened.
Saar also said that the settlement in Judea and Samaria is a protective wall for the coast, Jerusalem and the Dan region, implying that we cannot do a similar disengagement from Judea and Samaria.
