After performing with so many talented musicians including Lomelda and The Walkmen’s Peter Matthew Bauer, Ryan Von Gonten is set to release his debut solo record via our friends at Human Noise Records this autumn. The dream-like ‘Anthem’ offers a tantalising glimpse of what is to come.
The record was written following Ryan’s relocation from Texas to Oakland, California and the stunning surroundings of the Bay Area – as well as the trepidation and loneliness that come with a move – have inspired the sound. ‘Anthem’ is a blissful synth-led 3 minutes and 12 seconds with Ryan showing off his distinctive falsetto as he shares his thoughts and concerns (‘I never go out. I gave it a chance’) about loneliness. However, there’s a hopefulness running through that brings to mind the likes of Peter Silberman, Youth Lagoon or Grouper.
