Rs. 751 Mn to Re-start ‘Obata Geyak – Ratata Hetak’ Housing Project

The Treasury has released Rs.751 million to the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) to restart work on the unfinished houses belonging to the ‘Obata Geyak – Ratata Hetak’ Housing Project in  order to fulfill the housing requirements of low-income earning families. The housing project had been stalled for nearly four months due to a lack of sufficient financial provision. According to the request made by Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga from the Government, the Treasury has allocated the funds.

The National Housing Development Authority expects to restart the construction work of 2,265 houses immediately using these funds.

In 2021, the construction work of 6,039 of the 12,231 houses which had commenced have been completed. Although the work on 1,465 houses which started in 2022, only 25 houses have been completed.

Under this housing project, it was planned to build 14,022 houses, including one house for one Grama Niladhari Division in Sri Lanka.
