Royal Festival Hall Rear Landscape, London

By Davis Landscape Architecture @DavisLandArch

The square to the rear of the Royal Festival Hall was renovated shortly after the Royal Festival Hall itself was recently renovated. As with the landscape to the Southbank side of the Royal Festival Hall it was designed by landscape architects Gross Max. The square is simple in form, essentially horizontal with few vertical elements. The paving is high quality and robust with a regular pattern throughout. Bands of distinct paving are laid at right angles to the building, these have flush lighting strips inserted to provide some night time drama.

The space is effectively a blank canvas onto which events can take place. Food markets have become a regular event and occasional installations are accommodated.
