The Royal family has confirmed that Prince Phillip has been admitted to a London hospital for hip surgery, two days after missing church service with the Queen on Sunday.
Prince Phillip, who is 96, has been admitted to King Edward VII hospital for planned surgery on his hip, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow.
“Further updates will be issued when appropriate.”
Prince Philip retired from his official royal duties last August, although as spokeswoman said at the time he may attend events from “time to time.”
