From YouTube:
High note trumpet kings Roy Eldridge and Charlie Shavers go head to head, no holds barred. Recorded at Carnegie Hall, NYC, Sept. 13, 1952.
The group consists of:
Roy Eldridge, Charlie Shavers - trumpets
Benny Carter - alto sax
Flip Phillips, Lester Young - tenor sax
Oscar Peterson - piano
Barney Kessel - guitar
Ray Brown - bass
Buddy Rich - drumsThe tune was composed by Charlie Shavers, and is based on the changes of "I Got Rhythm". After the first chorus of trumpets, there is a chorus played by Flip and Lester, then Benny plays 4 choruses, and then the trumpet battle royale starts with Roy.
All the Jazz at the Philharmonic recordings are excellent, but many of them, like this gem, are out of print.
