A gritty reimagining of Shakespeare's famous tragedy, this brand new modern-day audiobook adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic love story is full of passion, emotion, scandal, disillusionment and family fallout.
An amateur dramatics company in a suburban corner of nowhere. Two men with very different lives, brought together when cast in the roles of Romeo and Juliet - 'as Shakespeare would have it', in the words of their eccentric and enigmatic director. Though the elicit romance doesn't only play out on the stage.
Against the odds, our heroes struggle to keep hold of each other and to keep a handle on real life. As the pressures, threats and expectations of their worlds draw in, per Shakespeare's original, the pithy banter from the first few scenes evaporates away to reveal a very real and present danger... and even tragedy.
Starring Owen Teale ( Game of Thrones), Matthew Tennyson ( Pride), Nick Moran ( Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) and Ricky Norwood ( EastEnders), Romeo and Jude contains strong language and adult themes.
As an Audio Show - free for members - when you add Romeo and Jude to your library, you'll get all 12 episodes, each with a runtime of about 30 minutes.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this audio drama as much as I did. I got it because it was free and I love Romeo + Juliet but had no real expectations. I listened to it at work and as the tragic tale reached the inevitable end I burst into tears, much to the puzzlement and in one case fear of my colleagues. I loved this, absolutely loved it. It's not what I expected at all. I loved the author's take on such a tragic yet beautiful story. If you're familiar with Romeo & Juliet at all you know where the story ends. The writer does a great job of taking you there. The story gets really dark towards the end as paranoia and homophobia and violence rear their ugly head's. I could not recommend this enough.
