The bride shared with us: “We met in 2007 when we were studying at the same university in Brighton, England. We crossed paths at a student event whereby Ryan was dressed as a Goat and I was a Farmers wife! He was very bold and asked me to dance and then went straight for a kiss that back fired as I moved away! After a long pursuit let’s just say he got the girl!”

“Ryan proposed to me the Easter of 2016 at my village ‘Kiato’ in the Peloponnese. We had invited his family over to experience Easter in Greece with all my family. We went for a walk by my most loved beaches where I have spent most of my childhood summers that I hold dear to me and it always makes me feel close to my mother. It was very thoughtful and meaningful destination.”

“Ahh! The DRESS. She was a tough cookie to find. I was told, the first one you put on will be the one! She was no.28 or something! My wedding dress is Valenta by Pronovias. I bought it from a wonderful boutique owned by a Greek Cypriot family in Wimbledon. Called Teokath. I had a more romantic and floaty dress in mind… I wanted my dress to surprise everyone. This is because I am quite a fiery and sassy person my nature. That did not work though. I wore Valenta and could not stop thinking of how she made me feel. How I imagined my husband would feel when he saw me. That was my main motive. What will make my husband’s (and priest! Oups) jaw drop respectfully!? It was also very light despite the long trail. I loved the delicate lace detail on the bust and all along the trail. It was interactive. It got all my bridesmaids involved and I knew that would make for a fun walk up the massive hill to the church! In the church when we were standing together I thought the dress will look simply royal. Lastly I was able to dance the night away!”

“We chose two style dresses to make sure all body types can be celebrated. I picked them because they were light and easy to dance in without compromising on style.”

“I am very patriotic and love my country dearly. Since living in England that fondness has only strengthened. However, my husband and our family have taken me under their wing, welcomed me and have fallen in love with all that is Greek. We wanted to celebrate the two countries and cultures unity. We knew that the magic of Folegandros would be at the epicentre of our wedding. We did not want to overwhelm it and drown it out. We wanted to celebrate it and us! The groomsmen honoured the Greek colours of blue and white. The bridal party wore a dusty pink to honor the English rose and Ryan’s background.”

“We wanted our wedding to be fresh, young, stylish but also respect and highlight our surroundings. Making sure our guests were dressed appropriately for the Island weather. This would make a perfect recipe for a brilliant wedding.”

“Our stefana and lampades were very rustic like the island. All the tables were named after all the different countries our guest came from to be with us and how many miles away that was from Folegandros! We had koufeta that looked like pebbles to represent our love for the sea.”

“The ceremony took place in the beautiful Church of Panagia on Folegandros Island. We chose Folegandros because it was Ryan and mines first couples’ holiday together. We fell in love with the island, the raw and wild landscape, its beautiful crystal-clear beaches. Mostly how the people made us feel. 10 years later that is where we wanted to get married. We have traveled a lot and lived in Asia but the way we felt there was incomparable. We found a secret! One to share with only the ones you love most!!”

“I was very mindful with my choice of flowers and decorations. For the bouquets and Boutonniere we used a mixture of olive branches, Roses and my favorite flower the Peonies. Again representing the same meaning of Unity of the two countries.”

“For our wedding decoration, we chose olive branches and the islands natural greenery to decorate the tables using the natural foliage of the Platia with some wonderful candles and fairy lights. This was in honor of the island and my Greek heritage. We used the dusty rose to add a bit of color and compliment the theme.”

“The most meaningful touch was a picture of my mother by the Acropolis with a glass of wine next to her in a tasteful glass casing. She passed away when I was 13. I wanted her present but in a way to celebrate her memory and not make me or my family sad. Celia really did me proud with this suggestion. It was an important and beautiful detail for me.”

“The best moment of your wedding was the party in the square till the early hours in the morning. We broke plates and my husband surprised me by learning to dance zebekiko and all the girls did tsifteteli! We all were together, and the energy was never ending. Endless laughter, hugs and dancing. All our friends and family in one place from all our different walks in life so far! An amazing experience and privilege.”

My advice for a bride to be: “The best advice I was given and was very conscious to have it in mind and practice it in on the day was to Stop. Take it all in. To be present. For every little bit. Even if you pull yourself and your husband away to one side for 5 mins and appreciate that all these people have come together across the world to share the same space and air as you this very night to celebrate LOVE. Only love can do that.”

“Lastly the DJ is hugely important. Chrysanthos from My Party Events was incredible. Our guests wanted to get up and dance after our starters. He read the vibes and just kept on giving. The party kept going till 8am and his Ferry was at 9:00!”
