When Princess Ann gets bored and restless she escapes her guardians and manages to live a little bit! Falling in love with American newsman Joe Bradley while in Rome.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Given the type of films that I adore, I guess it will come as a rather big surprise to the fact that this was the first time I have actually watched Roman Holiday. How that happened I seriously do not know at all, it is naturally a film that I should have probably watched many times before. Naturally I had heard that it is regarded as one of the best romantic comedy films of all time.
We see the love story unfold when Princess Ann wants nothing more than to be seen as a normal person and not have people all around her because she is a princess. Little did she know that Joe Bradley was well aware of who she was, considering his job as a reporter. He sees this as the perfect opportunity to write a rather incredible story and finds them spending a lot of time together.
The more films I watch from the 1950s the more I am massively impressed with how they stand the test of time, Roman Holiday is one that I can add into this and it has so much going for it. A head of its time in so many ways and that is why it is still a joy to watch 70 years later! Maybe I was meant to watch this in the year of its 70th anniversary.
Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in the starring roles was something that meant of course it will be good! They do not disappoint and it also left me realising that I have not seen Peck in many films at all and that is quite frankly a travesty, he is an incredibly fine actor. Hepburn has really done so many different role and she is wonderful as always as a Princess in this one.
