The United 757-300 that brought us from Denver to SFO is powered by two of these Rolls Royce RB211-535E4B turbofan engines rated at 42,540 pounds of thrust each. Originally developed in 1969 for the Lockheed L-1011, the Rolls-Royce RB211 is a family of high-bypass turbofan engines made by Rolls-Royce. The RB211 engine was the first production three-spool engine, and turned Rolls-Royce into a global leader for aero engines. There are over 1100 RB211 engines powering over 500 Boeing 757 aircraft around the world, with more than 40 operators. RB211-535 engines have logged over 63 million flight hours and over 24 million flight cycles, and is regarded as one of the world’s most reliable turbofan engines. Deemed capable of at least 50 years of continuous development, the RB211 was officially superseded in the 1990s by the Rolls-Royce Trent family of engines. Fuji X-E2s w/18-135mm.
