Role of Artificial Intelligence for the Future Education and Training

Posted on the 29 April 2019 by Anees @ZulfiqarAAnees

Around 2 billion jobs will disappear by 2030 due to technological advances and their impact on the economy, warns Thomas Frey, senior Futurist at the DaVinci Institute. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), 65% of children who enter the primary school today will work in positions that do not yet exist.

Technological advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and nanotechnology are drastically changing the conditions of the labor market and the life of companies: in 1960, the average life of the companies that were listed on the S & P 500 was 56 years, while in 2016 it fell to less than 20 years and it is expected that in 2017 the life of companies will not exceed 12 years.

The origin of the problem lies in education, since 75% of students and educators consider that they do not have or are teaching the skills that companies will need in the near future.

What should you do and how should you prepare for this increasingly complex work environment? What is the goal of education? Is the format and the way of transferring knowledge appropriate for this and the next century? What should we teach the following generations, when do we know that 50% of future jobs do not exist today?

To respond to these and other concerns about the future of education, the role that technology plays in training and teaching, and to see what role entrepreneurs are playing in the possible solution, Endeavor Insigth  conducted an investigation in partnership with Korn Ferry and Google: EdTech: The skills of the future with just one click.

Here we present the main discoveries of the study so that today you can take charge of your education and training, and thus be able to face the challenging labor panorama:

  1. Adaptation and rapid learning. The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2022, 54% of the world’s population will need to update their knowledge and acquire new skills in order to compete in the world of work.
  2. Freelancing . Although a growing percentage of the population sees entrepreneurship as a way to generate sources of income, others are opting for freelancing , which allows independent projects to be worked on without the need to belong to a company. According to the Freelancing in America Survey projections, published by the Freelancers Union and the Upwork platform, by 2027, more than 50% of Americans will be freelancers. Today, there are 57.3 million freelancers in the United States alone, when in 2014 there were 53 million.
  3.  Model on demand. Mónica French, co-founder and CEO of Talent On Demand (http://www.talentondemand.com.mx/) , says the challenge is to develop multidisciplinary skills with a specific expertise that allows you to become an independent consultant. This opens a great opportunity for companies, since they will be able to operate, on demand and under a shared economy model, complete areas that are not directly related to the business model, which generates greater efficiency.
  4. The role of EdTech (https://edtechmexico.mx/). Educational technologies are facilitating learning and contribute to improving performance through the creation, use and management of appropriate technological processes and resources. It is about the use of technology in the form of products, applications and tools to improve learning, pedagogy and instruction. Today, it is the entrepreneurs around the world who are leading this change through mobile applications, gaming, personalized learning, micro credentialing, virtual and augmented reality, among others.
  5. Socio-emotional skills and STEAM. Two characteristics of the educational model stand out to face the new economic environment. First, the development of socio-emotional skills, and second, the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM, for its acronym in English). To the latter there are those who add the Arts as a relevant factor for future education (STEAM education). Both social-emotional skills and STEM or STEAM education will allow students to develop in an environment that is global, competitive, and constantly changing.
  6. Bleanded Learning Just as e-commerce is mixing shopping experiences with physical stores, and just as printed books have found a niche of coexistence with digital publications, education begins to move towards a model that mixes the most practical of EdTech with the most essential of face-to-face education. The blended learning uses technology to combine learning in and out of class, which results in maximizing the educational impact on students.

As the study by Endeavor México concludes , “only through technology will it be possible to match the skills required by the world of work and the capabilities of the next generations. With the proper use of technology it is possible to achieve quality education for all. “

Agustín Paulín, CEO of GemIIni México, is very clear about where we are and what is coming: “Technological innovation in the education sector still has challenges to solve, but it will be the companies that anticipate solving the problems who will have an advantage over those who come later. Innovation and change are a reality, it’s only a matter of time. “
