The moment Roger Federer fans have waited almost a years to see is nearly here, with the 20-time Grand Slam champions declaring himself to be “excited” about his return to action in Doha next week.
Federer has not played a competitive match since last year’s Australian Open semi-final defeat against Novak Djokovic, with knee surgery ending his hopes of competing in 2020.
Yet the Swiss maestro is back and he has declared he is fit and raring to go as he posted a Twitter video ahead of his flight to Doha.

“It’s been a year since my last travel to any event and I’m very excited,” declared Federer. “This is the moment where I could maybe thank all the people involved who made this possible. It’s been a long and hard road. I know I’m not at the finish line yet, but it’s good.
“I feel like I’m in a good place, I’ve been practicing very well. Hope you guys also are going to tune in to watch it and I hope I see you again very soon. Take care everybody.”
Excitement over Federer’s return will increase ahead of his return to the court early next week.
