Rog2Kay Interview

Posted on the 22 February 2012 by The Otter Beats @theotterbeats
Rog2kay the DJ extraordinaire from Montreal Quebec. He joins a very high class of DJ's in such a dynamic party scene. Rog2Kay, or Roger Murr, started spinning in 2004. “I started at my friend's lounge called Kafein” and it has been just uphill from then. Montreal is such a vibrant and live city that it is so very hard to make a name for yourself. In a previous interview with AXXE, we commented that many musicians seek recognition elsewhere, like Europe, before being recognized at home. Roger offers up some advice if you want to try and make a name for yourself in Montreal “I think one should put his pride aside , hustle and connect with the right people.” Roger has been around spots and he has a grasp of where he likes to play and hang “My favorites are Cherry, Salon Daome and Stereo.” Definite must hit up places.

Rog2Kay Interview

{Unwind with some Rog2Kay}

Roger Murr mixes many genres and speeds together into some pretty far out mixes. “Every great mix is somewhat inspirational. As far as my style goes not sure if I really have one, I love to mix things up...depends on my mood really.” Drawing from his feelings and just raw instinct for the sound. He lists Sasha, Desyn Masiello, Luke Flair and Tom Morgan as some of his early inspirations. “Although I drifted away from that style, it's a treat listening to their mixes... Nowadays it's gotta be The Magician... also Holic, Shawn Mac (One half of Casual Encounters) and MixChannel (Great friends of mine, they were a big help and showed me a lot of support ever since my first mixtape).”
Originals may be on the menu soon as Roger Murr has been toying with the idea for quite some time. “Well it has crossed my mind many many times but never got around to say OK... Honestly haven't really planned it but for now the mixtapes series, maybe some guest mixes.” We want originals!!
Enjoy the Mixtape 11 below you will not be disappointed.
For your eyes only and Happy Listening.
