Roe Vs. Wade

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back today after a week of work and writing. I’ve started a new story while my second one sits on the back burner and percolates. We’ll see where this new one goes. This has been an eventful week to say the least. Roe vs. Wade has been overturned. It’s now up to the state you live in whether a woman can have an abortion or not.

I don’t usually write political posts. I try to stay away from them because there’s enough of that on the internet as it is. But this one is a little different. Understandably, women are upset. They’re upset because they feel a choice has been taken away from them.

But this is more than a choice and we need to look at the bigger picture. Now, I don’t believe abortion should be used as a birth control method, but there are many gray areas surrounding this issue, and this isn’t a one size fits all kind of thing. I can’t know what’s best for someone else, and an unexpected pregnancy can be a scary thing.

So, if we’re going to take away the right for a woman to choose whether or not she wants to have a child, then in my opinion, we need to give her other options. That’s right. We can’t just stop there. One option that comes to mind is improving the morning after pill’s effectiveness. Right now it’s 75-89% effective. If we raise the effectiveness of this pill maybe abortions would be unnecessary.

But we can’t stop there. There’s more to do. We need to take better care of these babies once they’re born. We need to dramatically improve our programs for single mothers and find ways to provide them with healthcare. We need to make sure deadbeat dads are paying their way. We need to make sure the foster care system benefits the child. That their emotional and physical needs are met. If we’re going to take the right to have an abortion away, we need to provide better support for that single mother and her child.

That also includes providing her with a job so she can take care of that child and that includes parenting classes and providing both mother and child with emotional support.

You see there’s so much more to this issue than a choice. If we’re taking that choice away, we need to make sure we’re willing to do the hard work to raise these children, so they can have happy and healthy lives. That’s what Pro-life means to me, otherwise, it’s just pro-birth.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
