Robert Downey Jr has committed to a deal with Marvel Studios to return as Iron Man in the upcoming Avengers 2 (coming in 2015) and Avengers 3. No deal was made that included an Iron Man 4. At the rate of every three years, Downey Jr should be Iron Man until 2018, but will they be able to squeeze in another solo adventure between now and then? Marvel has two unknown movies slated for summer 2016 and 2017. It is also possible that the summer 2017 film is also Avengers 3.
