I found out via twitter Manchester Orchestra were touring and immediately went searching for tickets, being too late to get them for the Manchester date, Andrew surprised me with tickets for Birmingham. Funnily enough, not long after we bought our tickets they announced another set of UK tour dates, in October and actually added Newcastle to their list, so we'll definitely be seeing them again - without the 4 hour journey! The last time we were in Birmingham, we headed to Handmade Burger Co. and felt it would be rude to go somewhere else on this visit (plus, I couldn't persuade Andrew with Las Iguanas - when a guy wants a burger there's no changing his mind!) I took the opportunity to have the sliders and they were so good, very filling too so it was a pretty relaxed walk to the venue, The Glee Club, afterwards! Luckily it was only a five minute walk away and was a pretty small venue, great for an intimate gig.
I managed to get a photo pass for the gig, something I'd really like to do more of if I can. I love live music and want to get better at capturing the energy and atmosphere at a gig. Manchester Orchestra's set was brilliant, just the right mix of tracks from the new album, 'Cope' and older songs too. I was very happy to hear Simple Math too - the first song I ever heard by the band, only a few months ago.
In the morning I took Andrew to Boston Tea Party for breakfast. I visited their Exeter cafe when I was there last month and really liked the decor and the atmosphere in there so when I found out there was one in Birmingham, just a short walk from where we were staying, I knew we had to go. I'm gonna save from an overload of photos, as I think I might actually do a separate post about the cafe. Let me know if you'd like to see that.We both had the scotch pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and I honestly think they're the best pancakes I've ever had. I had the chai tea (with cinammon) and that was great too. I would've taken a photo of the little leaf on Andy's latte, but he had to stir in the sugar as soon as it arrived. Hmpf! I'm gonna save from an overload of photos and saying too much, as I think I might actually do a separate post about the cafe. Let me know if you'd like to see that.
After breakfast I made the decision to get my nose pierced. I have actually taken it out now, as I wasn't happy with the placement or the ring. I'll be much happier with a stud when it's fully healed and I can get re-pierced. I've definitely learned that when it comes to piercings, go somewhere you've been before or at least somewhere that you've been recommended by a person you trust. I know when I get my nose pierced again, I'll be going to one of the local places I've visited multiple times for my ears because I trust they'll do a good job!We had a great time in Birmingham, I actually had no idea there was a canal until this visit. When we went there after Taking Back Sunday, we only visited the Bullring (which of course, I wandered Andrew around again this time) but it was really nice to explore more of the city this time. Who knew that Birmingham had such a fancy looking library?!If you'd like to see more, you can watch my vlog below and do subscribe to my channel if you haven't already.Have you been to Birmingham before? You can follow me on Bloglovin | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | YouTubePlease nominate Hello Freckles for 'Best Personal Style' in the Company Style Blogger Awards here!
