I’m going to start out by telling you that I hate ironing. I don’t find it theraputic as a few people have told me that they do find it. I find it boring, repetitive, frustrating and frankly I’d rather be cleaning the toilet.
When I was asked to road-test the Tefal Pro Express Turbo Anti Calc I jumped at the chance, I mean I don’t love doing it, but if something can make my life easier, I’m all for it.
So, to test its capabilities, I got out some delicate synthetics, silk, viscose, cotton/elastane and denim and started ironing. Ok, I’m now going to admit that this was all the ironing, waiting to be ironed in my laundry, that had been there, ooohhh, around 6 weeks or so – I told you that I hate ironing.
The iron glided smoothly over every surface. I’ve really mastered the art of ironing creases into garments, but because of the extra steam that the iron produced, this didn’t seem to happen anywhere near as much as with my old iron.
My Ironing
I think this iron cut my ironing time in half, and not only can it be used like a regular iron, it can also be used as a steamer (something I’d been thinking of investing in, due to my vehement dislike of the chore).
Denim is one of those fabrics that can be difficult to iron and I’ve never found it so easy to iron a pair of jeans and barely needed to turn them over. All the knit tops I ironed just needed the one side ironed, rather than both.
Would I buy this iron? Given its price tag is around the $500 mark, I’d want to be doing a lot more ironing than I do (I look for non-crush fabrics so that I don’t have to iron frequently), but if I had to do a load of business shirts every week, or iron sheets and everything else I launder, I’d certainly invest in it. Even if you love ironing, it should also be easy, and the Tefal Pro Express does make ironing a pleasure (well almost, they need to build in an entertainment system… then we’d be talking!).
This iron works best with a mesh based ironing board according to the instructions, so the steam goes straight through. Even though I have an vintage wooden ironing board (so I got steam coming sideways) it was still heaps faster. Time to upgrade my board I feel!
