A study published in the Public Library of Science in 2013 revealed that the perception of Facebook being an important resource for social connection was diminished by the number of people found to have developed low self-esteem, and the more they used the network the lower their level of self-esteem.[129] A current controversial topic is whether or not social media addiction should be explicitly categorized as a psychological ailment.[130] Extended use of social media has led to increased Internet addiction, cyberbullying, sexting, sleep deprivation, and the decline of face-to-face interaction.[131] Several clinics in the UK classify social media addiction is a certifiable medical condition with one psychiatric consultant claiming that he treats as many as one hundred cases a year.[132] Lori Ann Wagner, a psychotherapist, argues that humans communicate best face to face with their five senses involved.[133] In addition, a study on social media done by PhD’s Hsuan-Ting Kim and Yonghwan Kim, suggests that social networking sites have begun to raise concern because of the expectations people seek to fulfill from these sites and the amount of time users are willing to invest.[134]

Let’s start with the script. It’s great. Written by soon-to-be-best- adapted-screenplay-nominee/winner Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network’s writing is intelligent and demanding on multiple levels: most obviously, the story is cleverly structured across dual lawsuits, but there’s an equal amount of sophistication to Sorkin’s character work–Zuckerberg is never quite capable of maintaining a dialog, Eduardo always stops just short of explicating his emotions.
This process involves much of the same process: You need to evaluate your existing paid media across each platform (e.g., Google AdWords, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to figure out what’s likely to help you meet your current goals.
I’m sure there is plenty of self-loathing and porn on Tumblr. However, my daughter has been using it for years, primarily to participate in the fan communities of various TV shows, movies, podcasts, and video games that interest her. Kids in these communities demonstrate a lot of creativity as they role play, share artwork, and mash-up different stories. When drama arises in those communities, she is smart enough to stay away. She has also learned a lot about politics and gender roles, social justice issues and respect for diversity. I suppose we are fortunate that she has a good head on her shoulders and wants to share her world with us rather than hide it.

Although Facebook is mainly centered around sharing photos, links, and quick thoughts of a personal nature, individuals can also show their support to brands or organizations by becoming fans.
