Lowell Hawthorne Reportedly Committed Suicide Over Tax Debt
A black entrepreneur who sadly ended his life reportedly did so over a massive million-dollar tax debt. As previously reported police found the body of Lowell Hawthrone, the founder of Golden Krust, at his Bronx factory. The 57-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Now more details have been released. According to The New York Post a family member told detectives that Hawthorne admitted the huge tax debt to some of his relatives, and was “acting funny” and “talking to himself” in the hours before his suicide.
Surveillance video showed Hawthorne shooting himself in the head.
A memorial for Hawthorne is planned for December 19 at Brooklyn’s Christian Cultural Center.
