Today brings news that director Andrew V. McLaglen passed away at age 94.
Son of Victor McLaglen, protege of John Ford, one of John Wayne's best buddies, McLaglen's film career is a barren wasteland of mediocrity. His filmography's littered with lazy star vehicles and uninspired rip-offs: Shenandoah, McLintock!, Cahill US Marshal, Mitchell. McLaglen's one triumph as a director is The Wild Geese, that derivative but entertaining mercenary flick. He racked up a respectable CV of television credits though, including Wanted Dead or Alive and Gunsmoke.
Harsh? Sure. Nil nisi bonum and all that. Wherever Andy McLaglen's at now, he can laugh about hisachievements and pay no heed to an amateur blogger.
