Story: Rickshaw Girl starts as a teenage artist Naima (Rahman) discovers her Rickshaw riding father is ill. He has become unable to continue riding, causing the family to lose their major income. Her mother also loses her job, forcing Naima to take a job as a family maid.
Naima isn’t going to take this role with ease and she learns about the hustle on the streets. However, she can’t get the role she wants, as a rickshaw rider. Naima decides to pretend to be a young man so she can follow in her father’s footsteps and get his beloved rickshaw back.
Verdict on Rickshaw Girl
Rickshaw Girl is a family drama following the struggles of a Bangladeshi family after the father becomes ill. It sees the teenage daughter putting up her dreams of being an artist to help the family. Showing that people will have to sacrifice dreams to maintain their lives.
This is a strong family drama, it gets to show the cultural differences in Bangladesh. Highlighting how certain sexes aren’t accepted in certain roles and how people are mistreated through the workforce. Novera Rahman brings us a wonderful performance, where she is filled with positivity despite the negative around her life. This ends up being a nicely told story to show that dreams are worth chasing.
Final Thoughts – Rickshaw Girl is an enjoyable family drama.
