Rhs London Secret Garden Sundays

By Djridings @fivethingsnow

First Sunday of the month April to September, & November 2014 Lindley Hall, London

WHAT IS A SECRET GARDEN SUNDAY?

Combining everything you need to grow your own with local, independent food producers, a special new series of events from RHS London promises to get Londoners growing, eating, and celebrating the best of seasonal British produce in 2014. Focusing on what’s in season, independent food producers will sit side-by-side with stalls selling plants, seeds and tools for anyone keen to try their hand at growing their own, or looking to revamp their veg plot. For those looking for handy hints and tips, there will be gardening experts on hand providing advice, cooking demonstrations, seasonal advice from top florists, and gardening and craft workshops. And for those just looking for a something different to do with their Sunday, there will be live music, craft, performance artists and plenty of things to eat, plant, and enjoy.

Sunday is a special day, and RHS London Secret Garden Sundays are a special one-stop destination where you can get all your Sunday stuff: potter, shop, browse, meet your friends for brunch, enjoy the farmers market atmosphere, look at some botanical art, enjoy a craft beer, watch a film, hear a band or watch some dance, and of course learn all about gardening! Secret Garden Sundays feature many interactive elements – make seed bombs or craft some unusual plant labels, have a go at topiary, play croquet on our indoor lawn, learn how to grow a chili plant or arrange flowers, create a woodcut.

Please click July Talks and Demos for a list of this Sunday’s events and speakers.

All Secret Garden Sundays have similar content, with slight changes to each show based on seasonality. The Secret Garden Sundays will have the look and feel of a farmers market or a village fete and will feel fresh and vibrant with an emphasis on the unique experience not on offer anywhere else in the capital, or indeed the country. Gardening in small spaces will be key including resourceful and creative methods of growing such as living walls, hanging

baskets, containers, window boxes, house plants, and allotments. Edible gardening will naturally emerge as a strong theme because the motivation for much city gardening is growing to eat, but of course everyone wants something different from their garden so we’d like to welcome the widest selection of nurseries.

Secret Garden Sundays take place on the first Sunday of every month from April to September: 6 April; 4 May; 1 June; 6 July; 3 August; 7 September. A Secret Garden Sunday Christmas Special will take place on 2 November. 10.00 to 16.00. Lindley Hall, London.
