Based on information revealed during questioning by Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata,  an underworld criminal and drug trafficker who was brought to Sri Lanka from Madagascar, the police on Monday found a Sri Lankan-made revolver buried near a mango tree close to the Udugama bus stand.

According to Police Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division, this firearm is said to have been used to kill Liyanpatabedige Kasun Chamara (26), who was a former associate of Harak Kata.

Kasun Chamara, a resident of Dickwella, was killed by a shooter on June 4 last year on the orders of Harak Kata who was in Dubai at the time. Harak Kata is said to have ordered the killing of Chamara as he had become suspicious about the behavior of the latter.

It is said the Harak Kata had later believed that Chamara was going to inform the police about his drug trafficking network and hence had ordered to kill his close associate.
