Picking up a few months after Under the Never Sky, both Perry and Aria are picking up the pieces of their lives. Perry finds being a leader isn't easy and must work to win the trust of the Tides. Aria has a near impossible mission with much at stake. When Aria's presence causes problems for Perry, Aria and Perry must split up. Aria journeys to find the Ever Blue and Perry must save the Tides from Aether storms until a time where they can escape to the Ever Blue. Both journeys bring surprises and adventure.On the story...
My description is crap. I know. It's just very difficult to describe the perfect balance of adventure and character relationships that is this story. This series isn't just about Aria and Perry and their feelings for each other. We've got Aria and Roar who are great friends. There's the mentorship and trust building between Perry and Cinder. I see promise between Cinder and Willow. There's so much more. I love that so much progress is made in this book though there is so much to look forward to. It had less of a sci-fi feel to it because there were fewer mentions of the technology on the pods. I felt as if I was in a different yet familiar world. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
On the narrator...
We had a switch in narrators which was a bit disconcerting because of the switch from female to male narration. Under the Never Sky was narrated by Bernadette Dunne Flagler and this installment is narrated by Michael Goldstrom. I think I preferred Ms. Flagler but I don't do well with change so that might be the difference. Mr. Goldstrom did an okay job but I find that this series is too good for its narrator choices.
Overall...
Pick up this series. It's well worth it. Choose the physical copy over the audio as well.
