VUE Cinemas are currently trialling some gourmet popcorn from Thomas Tucker in selected cinemas. This makes a nice change from the usual cinema stuff which I have to say I am personally not a fan of. Mr Review Addict however has been known to eat a large to himself before the film even starts! Gourmet flavoured popcorns like these are much more up my street, perhaps I am a popcorn snob?
Anyway the popcorn comes in 5 flavours: Fruits of the Forest, Salt & Vinegar, Sweet N' Salt, Coconut Toffee and Chilli & Lemon. I was sent 3 flavours from a PR agency to review.
Chilli & Lemon has a lovely reddish color to it and wow does it smell strong! It's a really interesting flavor because the popcorn is sweet but you have the heat and tang of chilli followed by the zesty lemon. I loved it! The bag weighs 30g and it's a good size especially for only 136 calories.
Sweet N' Salt also comes in a 30g bag and contains 138 calories. It's a fairly standard popcorn flavor but it's lovely big bits and very addictive.
I was most excited about the Coconut Toffee flavor which I had a feeling I was going to love. This comes in a 100g bag containing 414 calories and this stuff is amazing! They are big fluffy pieces of popcorn covered in a rather thick toffee and coconut coating. It is crunchy and tastes first of toffee followed by a lovely subtle coconut flavor. The combination is quite frankly dreamy which is not a word I think I have ever used in a review yet!
Verdict
I'm impressed with Thomas Tucker popcorn based on these 3 flavours. I love that you can have a healthier 30g bag and still get a decent portion, or if you are feeling a bit more indulgent you can go for a 100g bag of the awesome Coconut Toffee. It's a great selection of flavours and I love the idea of VUE offering more interesting snacks like these.
