The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
Series: Darkest Powers Trilogy #1
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal
Pages: 390 (Ereader)
Description:
After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.
At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behavior. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…

My Rating: Review: The Summoning
My Review: Chloe stars seeing ghosts in the most dramatic way possible, leading to her placement in a group home and a mental illness diagnosis.  Though Chloe tries to conform to the Doctors' recommendations, she starts to find that she is not alone.  And maybe, the Doctors' aren't trying to help her at all.  This first book in the Darkest Power trilogy is quite an enjoyable ride with twists and turns and even more surprises as the novel goes along.  I had made up my mind which characters could be trusted and which need a little kick in the rump and found myself quite wrong.  Though, this book is a solid introduction, I do think it is just that.  It is an introduction that makes you want for more.  It ends on a cliffhanger but I didn't mind because I had book two and three on deck.  I don't feel like I was attached to Chloe but Derek pulled at my heartstrings.  If you like a young adult novel with diverse young characters and great writing.  I would definitely dive into this series.
Have anyone read Kelley Armstrong?  This trilogy?  I heard that she has an adult series, anyone like that one?
