If you’d like kids to stay informed but think the news is too depressing, try News Shuttle Newspaper for Kids! Kid-friendly, informative and fun!

For my parents and many people in their generation, the ideal way to start their mornings is with a cup of piping hot tea and all the latest news, served fresh on the newspaper tossed in by the paper boy. When we were kids, one of our daily tasks was to write the day’s headlines in a notebook set aside for this purpose. Reading the newspaper was considered a sign of being studious, aware and intelligent.

However, if you’re a parent with young kids today, you probably dread giving your child the newspaper. In fact, many adults themselves have given up reading or watching the news. A survey by the American Psychological Association has found that regular intake of news increased levels of anxiety and increases the viewer or reader’s personal problems in his mind. Experts also say that it increases fear, reduces creativity and generally leaves us stressed.

So you can’t really blame parents who think it’s better to just block out the whole thing for our kids. But that’s a solution that brings with it other problems – it results in kids who are unaware of the happenings of the world, about the wonderful cultures around us and some wonderful people who are doing amazing things in all fields.

Well, it sounds like there’s no way out, but there is – make way for the News Shuttle Newspaper for Kids! This is a newspaper exclusively for children, that offers information in a kid-appropriate, informative and fun way. Would you like to know more? Check out our review below!

Our Experience with the News Shuttle Newspaper

With kids getting addicted to screens by the day, a print paper that’s tailored for young minds is a refreshing change. This is probably the reason the makers have gone ahead and created a newspaper that’s so bright and colorful that it will give any app or TV show a run for its money! News Shuttle is printed on thick, glossy paper, making it look more like a magazine than a newspaper. However, the structure is that of a traditional newspaper, with large sheets folded down the middle and placed one inside the other.

The illustrations are of good resolution and quite vivid, with the perfect balance of detail and simplicity. The font is large and easily readable, which is a welcome change from the teensy print on adult newspapers! The illustrations occupy a good amount of print space, which is perfect since the paper would otherwise appear too verbose.

One of the things I really liked about News Shuttle is that it isn’t like a generic kids magazine – it actually is a newspaper! It has all the latest happenings in the country – the return of Abhinandan Varthaman, the release of new 100 rupee notes, the first Indian police robot, as well as global events – the Oscars, the Dear Moon Mission and much more. Each article is short and crisp with an accompanying image.

But it’s not all about space missions and robots – there are plenty of humanitarian stories too, about children who do good deeds and fictional tales with important social messages. After all, Emotional Quotient has been proven to be more important than Intelligence Quotient, and such stories help improve kids’ EQ.

Kids who’d like supplemental reading to their school material will find lots to read in the News Shuttle. From vocabulary to biology, from Maths to geography, there’s a little bit of everything in every edition. And it’s only in bite sized doses so kids don’t feel like they’re still reading their school books!

Did I mention that the paper also has lots of fun stuff for kids to do? Yes, there are coloring pages, crafts, crossword puzzles and many such fun activities interspersed between the other content, so the monotony is broken. My personal favorite was the riddles page – it took me back to my childhood!

What I liked about the News Shuttle Newspaper for Kids:

  • Attractive enough to catch kids’ attention
  • Encourages kids to read
  • Keeps kids informed of national and international events
  • Protects kids from inappropriate news content
  • Is durable enough to last a long time
  • Supplements lessons learnt in school
  • Focuses on EQ as well as IQ
  • Provides light and kid-appropriate entertainment

What could be improved:

  • The cover page could be a little more specific about what’s inside
  • A little space between paragraphs would make the layout look better
  • A comic or two wouldn’t hurt!

Verdict

So what’s the final word on the News Shuttle? A big fat thumbs up!! As a parent, it makes me so glad to see that someone has come up with a kid-friendly newspaper like this, which is informative, thought provoking, interesting and lots of fun. With all the right boxes checked, there’s no doubt that your child will love spending time with this paper. In fact, I think the whole family is going to be fighting over who gets to read it first when it arrives in your home!
