Nothing about Danny Flannery's life is what Kate thought it would be, and as the truth is revealed she longs for a big fat do-over.
Danny's made a success of his building firm but is hesitant to participate in a flashy magazine spread. He's dead-set against it when he realizes the journalist sent to interview him is the only woman he's ever loved and lost. Everything he thought was true about the past is a lie.

My Review:
This romance has all my favorite elements. Kate and Danny meet when they are younger and fall in love, but as things tends to happen. It looks like it isn't meant to be. Not only does Kate lose Danny but everything she has ever known turns out to be a lie. Six years later, Kate returns to Low Country for her job. While she wants to complete her assignment and get back to D.C. Danny isn't making it easy. But Kate's still keeping secrets. With her family estranged and her career on the line, will she come clean before Danny finds out the truth, and can Danny risk his heart again for the only woman he's ever loved?
I really really enjoyed this read. Though there is kind of a quick start to Kate and Danny's romance when they are kids, I love that it didn't work out for various reasons. I know that sounds horrible but it seems more realistic. There was so much more to this story than the romance and it really took me by surprise. Although things end in the fashion that I like, surprisingly things aren't wrapped up neatly in a perfect bow. This book is awesome because Ms. Hayes really just got everything right. The timing, interchange between the characters, and character reactions just seem right on. These characters acted the way that real people would and I loved it. While I thought the flashback portion of the book was too long and not as interesting, I can understand that without it, the characters and their circumstances wouldn't have been as well-developed.
Read this is you enjoy a great contemporary romance that doesn't make you roll your eyes (although I like those at times too).
What are you favorite elements of romance novels? I love when the main characters break up and come back together years later. Everything seems so much more feisty : ) Maybe it makes me think that romance is more real that way. Certainly wouldn't want that to happen to me in real life though.
