In Summary... Finding Audrey is a YA book that tackles the tough issue of mental health and anxiety with the trademark humor and fun that Sophie Kinsella's writing is known for.
At first, I really shied away from this one because is a YA read and I like YA that is set in an imaginary or dystopian world. The drama of high school makes my skin crawl. But I'm so glad I gave it a chance because I loved it! Like really really loved! The focus is not so much on the event that caused Audrey to withdraw from the rest of the world--though Ms. Kinsella does a great job of revealing it bit by bit without actually telling the reader--but more so on Audrey's journey. Buuuuttttt, it wouldn't be a Sophie Kinsella novel without lots of humor and we definitely get tons of that as we follow Audrey's hilarious family as her mom is convinced that her son is struggling with a gaming addiction. Oh and there's a boy. A very sweet boy. This book is everything.
I don't know much about anxiety and mental health issues so I don't know if the topic is handled with sensitivity and truth.
On the narrator...
I really heart Ms. Whelan. She did a fabulous job. I believe there were additional voices to the cast but there weren't anyone else listed. I would definitely listen to Ms. Whelan again.
Overall...
I loved this book and laughed out loud many times. I was sad when it ended. If you are in a book funk, grab this one!
