Review: Coop’s Place -New Orleans, LA

Review: Coop’s Place -New Orleans, LAWhile walking the streets of New Orleans you’re bound to work up quite the appetite. While visiting any city we always look for referrals from the locals, and while shopping in the French Quarter we were sent to Coop’s Place. Coop’s is restaurant and pub (with just a touch of “dive bar” flavor), but also has a few video poker machines, so it is 21 and over only. For us, it was a nice place to have lunch in a kid free zone even though the ubiquitous frat boys(and sorority sisters) were present.
Coop’s had a great selection of both draft and bottled beers, as well as a full liquor bar. Review: Coop’s Place -New Orleans, LAAfter walking in and being seated we noticed a great smoky aroma and were quickly informed that they actually have a smoker out back and make their own tasso throughout the day. The tasso is used in their often raved about rabbit and sausage jambalaya.

Lauren and I tend to share everything so we ordered a couple amazing appetizers including a cup of red beans and rice

and some lamb ribs and shared an enormous shrimp and crawfish po-boy! The lamb ribs were delicate and tender and well seasoned. The real stand out here was the fact that Coop’s also makes their own red pepper jelly, great stuff!

Shrimp and Crawfish Po Boy

The Po-Boy and red beans with rice were both delicious as well, although the bread was a little tough on the sandwich.

The food was delivered quickly and hot, and the service was solid. If you’re looking for somewhere to stop off and eat that’ll give you some great NOLA cooking and a few drinks at a reasonable price, Coop’s is the place.
