My Review: Since there has to be 5 million reviews out there about this particular book, don't let me bore you. There's a spaceship going to an unknown planet 200 years away. The really smart people who are needed to start things off on this planet can't for 200 years so they are frozen. Except someone is trying to wake them too soon. Amy is one of those forced awake way too soon. But people don't just awaken, some die. Oh and there is a society inhabiting the ship to, you know, keep things going and populate the new planet.
The premise of this book is so fantastic. There's a million places it could have gone and my mind was reeling with the possibilities. In the end, it went a route I wasn't expecting. Though I imagined more creative directions for this one, I enjoyed the read. I loved the suspense of it all. Not only did I want to know the identity of the murderer, I wanted to know the reason for the alternate reality, and I also wanted to know about this mysterious plague. It was all so exciting. I didn't fall in love with the characters though my heart went out to Amy for her predicament. I thought Elder was a little one dimensional.
I'm not sure how the rest of the series will turn out but I walked away feeling so impressed with Ms. Revis. Sometimes I feel like trilogies are the in thing and we get them rather we need a continuation or not. Here there is enough going on that it doesn't feel stretched out. The questions introduced were answered fully. But there is still a story to tell. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series and the character growth that is sure to come.
P.S. This isn't dystopian. I mean it kind of is...technically. But it isn't. It doesn't have the dystopian vibe. But I'm counting it anyway.
