The Note 12 Pro+ features a stylish, high-end design that would look well at home on a product that costs double as much.
The first clue is in Xiaomi’s material selection: plastic on the sides and glass on the front and rear. The latter is a welcome surprise because mid-range handsets do not typically come with it. The phone’s appealing shimmering effect is made possible by a matte coating that prevents the accumulation of fingerprint smudges.
This is more noticeable in the “Iceberg Blue” model you can see in the images, but the effect is also noticeable in the “Arctic White” and “Obsidian Black” models. The IP53 rating, however, is somewhat disappointing. In contrast to IP68 on flagship devices, it only offers splash-level water protection against dust.

One significant compromise with the phone can be found there, but it has nothing to do with the plastic. The 12 Pro+ includes a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button rather than an in-display one. Although its target range is narrower, it is still quite dependable and tends to unlock the phone more quickly.
It doesn’t feel at all like a degradation, and I’d suggest using it instead of the less safe-face unlock.

High levels are where you’ll really notice the absence of bass and treble despite the speakers’ excellent loudness. Most distortion is nevertheless avoided.

For many Redmi phones, Xiaomi still chooses MediaTek processors over the Qualcomm ones we see in its flagships. The Dimensity 1080, a 5G chip made exclusively for mid-range smartphones, powers the Note 12 Pro+.
Performance might not seem like something to brag about, but the phone actually has some strong points in this area. Even with only 8GB of RAM (the 12GB variant is only available in China), it excels at all daily tasks.
I spend a lot of time browsing the internet, sending messages, taking pictures, and occasionally watching videos. I frequently switch between them as well, so multitasking is crucial.
The phone had no trouble keeping up in any of these situations, as well as numerous more. The Dimensity 1080 is a pretty competent chip, so it’s not surprising that more costly smartphones (like the Xiaomi 12T Pro) employ it. The 12 Pro+ offers some of the highest performance of any mid-range phone in addition to having a 120Hz refresh rate.

Many photographs benefit from the ambiance that an overcast sky brings without becoming overexposed or unnatural. In many different situations, the primary camera is a fantastic point-and-shoot lens.
Unlike the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, the camera app does not offer the ability to choose between “Vibrant” and “Authentic” modes. By design, the 200Mp lens obviously favors the latter, resulting in photos that are amazingly true to life and barely show signs of post-processing. Turning on AI will usually work if you want something that is significantly more saturated.
Moreover, I’m quite pleased with how it handles dim light. You won’t even need to use night mode around sunset or on streets with lots of artificial lighting to capture a great image. Yet when it’s turned on, the brightness and detail in low-light situations get a great boost.
It’s important to keep in mind that the 12 Pro+ doesn’t necessarily shoot in 200 MP by default. Instead, it essentially combines 16 photos into a single, higher-quality 12.5Mp photo using a technique called pixel binning. This is mostly done to prevent large files from clogging up your phone, but it’s also done because raw 200Mp stills barely differ from one another and barely show any progress.
It’s disheartening to see such a decrease in quality when switching to the 8Mp ultrawide lens because landscape and street photography are two areas where the main lens excels. It offers a good 120-degree field of vision, but the compromises in detail, exposure, and color accuracy make me hesitant to use it.
The phone uses software to implement its portrait mode because it lacks a depth sensor. Even though you can control the level of background blur before or after taking the picture, the all-too-common edge detection problem makes it hard to use.
The 12 Pro+ can record video at up to 4K at 30 frames per second, while the standard 1080p at 30 frames per second provides enough detail for informal home videos or social media. The primary lens’s optical image stabilization (OIS) allows it to withstand significant movement, too.

The battery capacity for the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is 5,000mAh. Given that this is a reasonably typical capacity for a modern smartphone, battery life is adequate but not particularly noteworthy.
On PCMark’s battery test, I had an exact result of 11 hours with the brightness set to 200 nits. It simulates popular tasks in an effort to mirror real-world usage, but it will be difficult to come close to it in terms of actual screen time.
The 12 Pro+ may still typically last all day long with more battery life. You shouldn’t need to connect to the power source until much later in the day, even on days when you’re using GPS, shooting plenty of images, and keeping brightness high.
Running out of battery power is less of an issue, though, thanks to some of the fastest charging available. Although the 120W charger that comes with the device doesn’t quite reach Xiaomi’s boasts of a full battery in 19 minutes, you can get 58% in 15 minutes and 100% in under 30 minutes. When most individuals get up, they can plug in their phones and have them completely charged well before they need to leave the house.

The MIUI operating system is used by Xiaomi-owned products including the Redmi Note 12 Pro+. This is Android version 14, which is based on Android 13 but differs in a number of important ways.
Bloatware is unquestionably the most unpleasant of these. With regard to online browsing, file management, taking notes, seeing images, and many other functions, Xiaomi has incorporated its own apps that cannot be deleted. When the Google version is already available, it feels rather abrupt.
Yet, when it comes to pre-installed software, that is merely the tip of the iceberg. Several additional programs, well-known apps, and games have already been downloaded for you. Although arduous, getting rid of them is at least a possibility.

It costs £449/€499 and comes with 8GB of Memory and 256GB of storage. In the UK and Europe, you can purchase one right away from the Xiaomi website; however, no other stores or networks are currently providing the product on a contract.
With the Google Pixel 6a, OnePlus One 2T, and Nothing Phone (1) all having comparable prices, it places the 12 Pro+ in the mid-range phone category.
The 200Mp camera makes the phone stand out from the competition, but it also offers many other flagship features and is still very reasonably priced. Although some of the mid-range choices would be preferred, the 12 Pro+’s specs are tough to match.
